Why Is My QR Code Not Scanning?

Most QR failures come from a small group of issues: insufficient contrast, missing quiet space, blur, excessive styling, an oversized logo, or a code printed too small for its density and viewing distance.

Check contrast and inversion

Use dark modules on a light background. Some scanners can read inverted codes, but support is less consistent. Gradients should remain dark across the complete module area.

Restore the quiet zone

A QR code needs clear space around every edge so a scanner can separate it from surrounding artwork. Cropping, frames, text, or background patterns can make detection fail.

Reduce styling and logo coverage

Return to square or gently rounded modules, reduce the logo size, and use High error correction. Never cover the three finder patterns in the corners.

Inspect image and print quality

Avoid screenshots, JPEG compression artifacts, blur, and fractional resizing. Export a large PNG, keep it square, and print it sharply. Then test both the file and the physical piece on multiple phones.
